His Truth

Some years ago during his television show, Flip Wilson in a skit told a lie.   The other character confronted him and said, “You lied to me.  Why did you lie?”  Flip Wilson responded, “A lie is just as good as the truth if you can get somebody to believe it.” This response that was merely part of a comedy act for Flip Wilson has become the norm in our society.  Lies and deception have replaced the truth in our world.  The travesty of a lie is that you can get people to believe it, but it will never produce the transforming or stabilizing effects of the truth.  Lies and deceptions are unable to stand alone.  They must have the support of other lies and deceptions to maintain their appearance of the truth.  We see this practice in people in our government.  Whatever lie is told must be supported by other lies.  The truth, however, has its own ability to stand alone and to benefit those who hold fast to it.  When one believes the truth of God’s word and then acts on it, he or she abides in the grace of the Father.  Sometimes our pride will hinder us from embracing God’s truth.  One reason God’s truth. which is the only truth, can sometimes be hard to embrace is because the truth about us, our motives, the things that we do, shows us our sins and faults.  Our pride does not allow us to receive God’s truth by exposing our sins, faults, and failures.  Lies or deception are more acceptable to us because they feed our pride and cater to our felt needs or desires.  Lies and deceptions affirm us in things that God’s truth disagrees.   Consequently, our pride blinds us, then it captures us through the deceitfulness of sin. It ultimately subjects us to the consequences of the lies we believed.  Jesus stated this in John 8:32. “…and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free."  Jesus, in talking to Pilate in John 18:37 said, For this purpose I was born and for this purpose I have come into the world— to bear witness to the truth. Everyone who is of the truth listens to my voice."  Jesus explained what truth is in John 14:6. Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.  Jesus Christ is the embodiment of truth. He is truth personified. To know Jesus and to follow His word is to walk in the truth.  What His word says about how we are, what we do, and what we give ourselves to is the “Only Real Truth.”  To not believe God’s word and follow it, is to embrace a lie.  There is no middle ground.  There are no other truths but His truth.  The question that every human must answer is this.  Do you believe God’s truth which is the only truth?  All other so-called truths are lies that cater to our pride.  Pride always comes before destruction.

So, then what should we do?  How should we move forward?   First, believe in Jesus.  Secondly believe all of God’s word and what He has to say about who you are, how you are, and what you are doing.  If you will embrace His truth and the only truth, then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus.
